Nicholas Hunt’s passion for art began at a young age and can pinpoint the specific moment his artistic awakening occurred. After viewing a Billy Al Bengston Dracula painting he became enthralled with the way the painting was given new life when viewed in different lighting and varying angle and sought to explore this concept within his own work.
The Caliber Abstraction series draws on Billy al Bengston’s Dento paintings and Robert Rauschenberg’s Erased de Kooning and reveals color through one of the most destructive and negative forces available. The series is about creation through ruin, and the revelation of true colors within one's self. Each gun is chosen based on visual outcomes, evoking questions of violence and the politics surrounding the Constitution’s second amendment.
Hunt is based in Los Angeles, California.
