Samuel T. Adams

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio (1980), Samuel T. Adams holds a MFA from School of Visual Arts, NYC.  His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally, as well as in Berlin and Taipei.  Adams has also been honored with multiple residencies at art centers throughout the northeast, including prominent fellowships from the Millay Colony for the Arts and Vermont Studio Center.  Recent group exhibitions have included shows with ZieherSmith (NY, NY), Allegra LaViola Gallery (NY, NY), Lesley Heller Workspce (NY, NY), and Nudashank (Baltimore, MD). He currently lives and works in Brooklyn.

The artist describes his work as ''a culmination of imaginative imagery.'' Layers of different textures and fluidity achieved through ''alchemical painting procedures'' lay the backdrop for Adams' scenes of comedic absurdity. While the artist cites the work of Bosch and Piranesi and the resonant mischief in the writings of Borges and Sebald as influential, Adams' paintings are unique in their realization of ''imagery that is strikingly familiar yet strikingly other.'' Adams hints at natural disaster, moral irresponsibility, and the concepts of judgment and identity through a lens of visual satirical farce.
