Pressing the Boundaries of Printmaking: Five Decades of Mixografia
August 17, 2026 – January 7, 2027, Palm Desert, California
探索For five decades, Mixografia has pushed printmaking into three dimensions. In 1973, Rufino Tamayo wanted his prints to carry the texture and weight of his paintings, and Luis and Lea Remba invented a new process in Mexico City to make that possible. Handmade paper is pressed into cast, inked plates so that each print takes on real relief and contour.
Pressing the Boundaries of Printmaking brings together artists who worked with the studio, now in Downtown Los Angeles, to make images you can almost touch. On view are Ed Ruscha's weathered signs, Louise Bourgeois's crochet works, Helen Frankenthaler's fields of color, John Baldessari's figures and Tom Wesselmann's Pop nudes, along with works by Manolo Valdés, Jacob Hashimoto and Darío Escobar.
These artists come from very different movements; what connects them is a workshop that believes no vision is too demanding for paper to hold. On view in Palm Desert through January 7, 2027.

探索Completing the Illusion: Venezuelan Op Art brings together five artists who helped define an international movement while forging something distinctly their own. Soto, Cruz-Diez, Salazar, Ventoso, and Barrios each trained or worked in Paris, yet viewed together their work reveals a shared inheritance: a Venezuelan ethos of participation, where the viewer completes the illusion. On view in Palm Desert through October 9.
