تعتبر لوحة "زهور قبل شروق الشمس" (Flowers Before the Sun)، وهي لوحة زيتية ضخمة على قماش من عام 1989 للفنان جيمس روزنكويست، من أبرز أعماله في سلسلة الزهور التي أنتجها في الثمانينيات، حيث تمزج بين أشكال نباتية نابضة بالحياة وآثار بشرية خافتة. روزنكويست، الذي كان شخصية بارزة في فن البوب في الستينيات، انتقل من أعماله التجارية المبكرة إلى أسلوب شخصي للغاية، وهو تغيير ينعكس في هذه اللوحة المبهرة التي تضم مجموعة من الزهور باللونين الأصفر والأحمر على خلفية كونية دوامة من الألوان البيضاء والبنفسجية والبرتقالية. مستوحاة من انتقال استديوه إلى أريبيكا، فلوريدا، واعتماد تقنية الطباعة الملونة المتقدمة، تدمج اللوحة روعة الطبيعة مع الذوق التجريدي في نهج جديد.
