تعطينا لوحات الطبيعة الصامتة مثل لوحة "البرتقال والليمون" (C 455) نظرة ثاقبة لحياة تشرشل الغنية والملونة، تماماً كما تفعل مناظره الطبيعية والمناظر البحرية. رسم تشرشل لوحة البرتقال والليمون في لا باوزا. وكثيراً ما كان تشرشل يتردد على لا باوزا كضيف على وكيله الأدبي إيمري ريفز وزوجته ويندي. اشترى ريفز المنزل من كوكو شانيل. وفي حين لم يشاركه أفراد آخرون من عائلة تشرشل حماسه، إلا أن تشرشل وابنته سارة أحبا المكان الذي كان يطلق عليه تشرشل بمودة "لابوزالاند". لتجنب الرسم في الخارج في صباح يوم بارد في شهر يناير، رتبت ويندي ريفز الفاكهة لتشرشل ليرسم عليها. تضيء لوحة "أورانج آند ليمون" التي تحيط بها مجموعة ريفز الرائعة من الأعمال الانطباعية وما بعد الانطباعية التي تعود إلى ريفيز، بما في ذلك عدد من لوحات بول سيزان، علاقات تشرشل وتأثير سيزان الذي كان معجباً به. عاشت اللوحة، مثلها مثل تشرشل، حياة حافلة بالألوان، حيث عُرضت في كل من معرض الأكاديمية الملكية للفنون عام 1959 للوحاته ومعرض نيويورك العالمي عام 1965.
