M. EVELYN MCCORMICK (1862-1948)

M. EVELYN MCCORMICK M. Evelyn McCormick (1862–1948) was an American painter associated with California Impressionism and the Monterey–Carmel art colony. Born in Placerville, she trained at the San Francisco School of Design and became known for her luminous depictions of Monterey’s historic adobes, coastal landscapes, and gardens. McCormick exhibited widely, including at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915, and remained an active figure in the region’s artistic community throughout her life. She died in Monterey in 1948 and is remembered for her distinctive contributions to early California painting.
