MARIE FELIX HIPPOLYTE-LUCAS (1854-1925)

MARIE FELIX HIPPOLYTE-LUCAS Marie Félix Hippolyte-Lucas (1854–1925) was a French painter born in Rochefort-sur-Mer. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where his teachers included Isidore Pils, Henri Lehmann, and Évariste-Vital Luminais. Beginning in 1877, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français for several decades and also participated in the 1889 and 1900 Expositions Universelles. He received the title of chevalier of the Legion of Honour.

Hippolyte-Lucas worked in portraiture and decorative painting. His commissions included decorative schemes for the Monte Carlo casino and a large fresco, L’Activité commerciale en Europe, for the Paris Stock Exchange. He also painted figures such as Loie Fuller and taught students including Gaston Manchon. He died in Bougival in 1925.
