"פרחים לפני השמש", ציור שמן מונומנטלי על בד משנת 1989 מאת ג'יימס רוזנקוויסט, בולט כשיא בסדרת הפרחים שלו משנות ה-80, השוזר צורות בוטניות תוססות עם עקבות אנושיים קלושים. רוזנקוויסט, דמות מפתח באמנות הפופ של שנות ה-60, עבר מעבודותיו המוקדמות המונעות על ידי מסחר לסגנון אישי עמוק, שינוי המשתקף במערך הפרחים המסנוור של ציור זה בצהוב ואדום על רקע קוסמי מסתחרר של לבן, סגול וכתום. בהשראת מעבר הסטודיו שלו לאריפקה, פלורידה, ואימוץ טכנולוגיית צילום צבעונית מתקדמת, היצירה משלבת את יופיו של הטבע עם חוש מופשט בגישה רעננה.
