モーリス・ド・ヴラマンクの『花瓶の花』(1910-11年)は、初期の代表的な静物画であり、画家のフォーヴィスム的感性を奔放で絵画的な力強さのイメージへと昇華させている。鮮やかな赤、黄、白の花々が力強く咲き乱れ、暗い花瓶から躍動的に噴き出すように広がり、形と色の鮮烈な対比によって、ほぼ彫刻的な効果を生み出している。 力強く方向性のある筆致で、ヴラミンクは花弁や葉を躍動的なリズムへと昇華させ、伝統的な卓上モチーフを動き・質感・強烈さの研究へと転換している。
